And for me, that’s how motherhood should be captured. With honesty, and understanding; sincerely, and in full.
Not in Disney-polished technicolour. But in the open beauty of the grey.
Those moments when you hold them, and the world falls away. Feeding, screaming, smiles in exhaustion. Curious sniffs, and jealous siblings; the closeness and warmth of their first ever home.
Because these weeks, these months, are perfect as they are. Deeply beautiful as they are. Important as they are.
To be so threaded-through with them it would tear you at the seams.
To give them life, share your days, and watch them grow. Until eventually, at last, and all too soon- you set them adrift into an undeserving world.
What a gift it is to love with such an ache.
And worthy of remembering, just as they are.
If there’s older siblings, I’ll have a chat and make friends; if there’s a pet, I’ll make the world’s biggest fuss of them!
And before long, you’ll naturally just sink back into family life. Feeding them, changing them, bouncing them into calm. Falling into those ocean-deep eyes; gently playing with those impossibly tiny hands. Siblings wandering in and out, pets roaming free.
We’ll move slowly through your home, the living room, the couch. The beautiful nursery, with the beautiful toys. And then onto your bedroom (where the baby actually sleeps!)
You won’t have to tidy up, perform, or pose. I’ll take care of everything; you’ll get to just be.
It begins with a coffee. A slump into the sofa, and a hug hello. Lots of oohing and ahhing at this tiny new human!

Be with them, be present, be there. Soak in those fragile moments. And let me capture your memories with all the unaltered beauty they deserve.
Those first few months are a whirlwind. They’ll grow so quickly; they’ll change so
much!
And it doesn’t matter if they’re 5 weeks old, 10 weeks, or 20, there’ll be so much to remember- so much love, so much beauty- in that tiny little pocket of time.
I guess that’s why I call it
motherhood photography as well. Because it’s
more than just documenting what they looked like, when.
Do we have to have our newborn photography session in the first 5 weeks?
No, not at all. There’s no rush, just wait until you’re comfortable.
It’s about capturing you, their home, their family. To give them photos they can look back on, and see a life before memory. To see you as you are- weary, and happy, and folded in around them.
To see the way you look at them, and feel the love that welcomed them into the world.
