FAMILY
These are not unspectacular things.
And if you dress perfectly, behave perfectly, everything that’s yours gets tidied away. Your messy-imperfect, traded for hollow.
So when I come- please, just do what you love. Let’s jump on the furniture, and chase through the park. Let’s laugh, play, paint, and pretend.
Teddy bear tea parties, and digging through Lego. Soggy paws, and lolly-red faces. “Did you know…?” stories, and muddled words.
How their weight slumps against you in a dangle of weary legs. Their grubby-old cuddlies with their love-matted fur.
Let’s bottle these days of beautiful chaos.
And join their depthless joy of an undiscovered world.
And before long- naturally, gradually- you’ll forget me like furniture, and fall back into family life.
Sometimes it’s chaos, laughter, and boundless energy (“Did you see me? Did you see me? Did you get it? Can I see?”) Sometimes it’s colouring in the kitchen, and fetch with the dog.
We’ll play in the garden, go to the river, or take our bikes to the park. We’ll have fun, do silly things, and go exploring.
And I might offer you the tiniest of prompts here and there: maybe a game, an outrageous question, or a nudge towards the light.
It begins with a coffee. A “how have you been?” chat, and a hug hello. A “what’s his name?” tour of their favourite toys.
But really, I just want to capture you. Not posing, but present. Wrapped-up in each other, at-home in yourselves. Lit-up with love, and comfortable in your own skin.
They are their own unique little humans- with their own character, unbridled sass, and delightful lack of filter! And if they’re silly, shy, mischievous, grouchy…it’s them.
Everything belongs, and it’s all part of the story.
So please, don’t stress. Don’t hem them in, bribe them, or feel like you have to apologise.
Because these Big Feelings will get smaller soon. A distant memory of a once-upon-a-meltdown.
Honestly? Don’t.
And when you look through the photos, you’ll want to remember them as they are. Affection and softness, tiredness, tantrums, grumps, and all. .
Get in touch today and let’s tell your story, together.
If you’re looking for a family photographer in Rotterdam, Den Haag, or Leiden, I’d love to hear from you.
